Mike co-founded Carbon Black (acquired by VMWare for $2.1B) where he held multiple roles including CEO, CTO, SVP Product, and Chief Strategy Officer. As a result, he is highly regarded as a thought leader among early-stage startup founders. His experience from Carbon Black’s early days has helped dozens of founders achieve product-market fit and gain early market traction. Now Mike is a Venture Partner at Accomplice where he focuses on helping founders in big data, machine learning, and cybersecurity markets.
Mike started his career as an offensive hacker for the NSA and CIA at 18-years-old. His experiences working on behalf of the U.S. government prompted him to develop technology that could better detect an attacker’s behaviors. This innovation led to the co-founding of Carbon Black in 2011, which later prompted the creation of the Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) market. He also founded Kyrus Technology, a computer and network security company based in Washington, DC. Prior to Kyrus and Carbon Black, Mike served as Deputy Director in the Mission and Technology Solutions Group at ManTech. He received a BS from Villanova University.
When Mike is not in the office he enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife, Melissa, and daughter, Avery.
